Training

As with many Martial Arts Kyokushinkai has various forms of competition fighting as well as general sparring and self-defence training.

Fighting systems in Kyokushinkai are in place to practice at competition level both in club, nationally and internationally, putting into use the skills and techniques that you have learnt.

With fight training your body has to be conditioned fully to be able to throw a correct technique, to take a hit and to continue to fight. There has  to be a high level of fitness to do this repeatedly. One of the key foundations of Kyokushinkai karate has always been intense fitness training. This is a great deal of your training alongside the many other aspects of Kyokushinkai.

Where Kyokushinkai differs from most other martial arts is that it uses practical and functional training systems with a very brutal style of competition fighting known as 'knockdown'.

Knockdown fighting system

Kyokushinkai karate is known for its knockdown fighting system. This takes  place without gloves, where punches are allowed below the neck only, however kicks to the head are allowed. This is a full contact fighting system and is a test of physical stamina and strength of mind. We are one of the only styles of Martial Arts to fight at this level.

Various competitions are held annually in many countries including the UK and within the dojo, knockdown sparring is commonplace.

General Sparring

In club sparring sessions have always been a large part of Kyokushinkai karate the world over. General sparring sessions use techniques not allowed in competition. You will learn open hand techniques as well as pressure point strikes.

These are practised in a controlled envronment and only when the instructor is present.

Intense fitness training

Anyone with any knowledge of Martial arts will know that Kyokushinkai offers a very intense fitness training environment.

The body gets worked to extremes to condition it for fighting. Without this  a person cannot be expected to fight effectively against an attacker or in competition. Kyokushinkai classes will always involve intense fitness training and you will get very fit in a short amount of time. To progress you must keep a certain standard of fitness.

Kata

British Kyokushinkai Karate uses a Kata system which is designed to teach you how to use the techniques you have been taught in movement form whilst maintaining correct posture, balance and technique.

This is a very intense training method which will increase your physical fitness, mental focus and correct execution of technique.

The techniques in Kata are used in their full form to work the muscles to the fullest extent.

Kyokushinkai Syllabus

Sevenoaks Kyokushinkai Karate follows a traditional syllabus system, with each grade having its own kihon (basic techniques). The techniques have multiple uses from self defence applications, the blocking of attacks, grabs, locks also to striking and kick to disabling or incapacitate an attacker.

The foundation of Syllabus training is to teach your body the correct form so that your muscles are worked correctly.

In fighting this will translate to a faster more powerful technique.

It is also a very intense fitness training method.
